EASY DIY STRAW FALL WREATH

Donna here with a fairly quick and easy home decor or gift idea (I made this for my DIL's birthday this week).

Here's what you will need:

A 12" to 14" straw wreath, such as this one.

Flannel or cotton fabric (I had some on hand, approx. 55" x 55" and had leftovers).

Sewing scissors and/or pinking shears

Wired RIBBON to coordinate with fabric (1.5" to 2.5")

2-piece wooden, pre-painted TURKEYS

Faux leaves in coordinating colors

Wooden HAPPY FALL sign

Glue gun, glue sticks

Cut the fabric into approximately 3 to 4 inch squares; mine were about 3 inch and then I just followed one of the stripes in the material to stay close to the same size. Or you can cut a piece of cardboard to use as a template.

Remove plastic wrap from the straw wreath. Yes, you can use a Styrofoam wreath also, if you prefer. If you are going to place it outdoors, it will be lighter and more prone to the wind.

Take individual squares of fabric and by using the closed tips of your sewing scissors, push the middle of the fabric into the wreath. I started on top of the wreath and worked around in a circle, then went back and filled in with more fabric to the inside of the wreath a bit and then to the outer edge of the wreath. You can make it as full or not as you like--I preferred mine to be pretty full.

I then took 3 faux fall leaves and glued those together, pressing them into the fabric on the lower part of the wreath. I then hot glued the back of the "Happy Fall" sign and pressed it onto the leaves.

I did the same with leaves for both of the other turkeys and hot glued them on, too.

I actually place a heavy book over the turkeys and Happy Fall sign and let them sit for a few minutes to make sure the glue took.

Next, add a ribbon. I used the 1.5 inch wired ribbon. Maybe you know how to make a great bow but I used this YouTube video and I am happy how my simple bow turned out!

I checked the wreath over once more to make sure I was happy with it. I have seen some creators who added a dot of hot glue to the portion of the fabric going into the wreath but I felt that I pushed the fabric in deep enough with the scissors.

Of course, you can use fabric to suit any season or time of year--I might try a Christmas one if I have time.

Let me know if you make one and please add a pic to the comments whenever you do!
