Kate's Dinosaur Garden--Easy Summer Fun

Hello and happy July 10th!  Not a holiday but it is summer!

Today I just have a quick post to share with you.  Several weeks in the summer and usually a week at Christmas break, our little granddaughter Kate spends some time with us due to her dad's work schedule.  She comes to stay with us for the week.  Kate is such a funny and sweet little girl and often has words of wisdom for us.  Just the other night, her tummy felt a bit off and so I was asking her questions, such as "What does your dad do when it feels like this?" or "Do you feel like you need to throw up?"  After a few of these questions, Kate said, "Grandma, you're a NURSE!  Think it out!"  LOL.  Gee, Grandma, quit being such a lame RN and grandparent.  We do get quite a kick out of her.

Last week when I picked her up I asked her if she would like to make a Fairy Garden.  I still had some supplies and a larger pot plus a couple of succulents.  She said "yes" and we stopped at a Dollar Tree on the way home (we live 2.5 hours away from Kate) and Kate saw a bag of dinosaurs and said, "Grandma, can I make a Dinosaur Garden instead?"  Of course I said she could so we bought a bag of $1 dinosaurs.  Actually, I like dinosaurs.  I used to play with little plastic ones my mom would buy me from Woolworth's.  Oh, and little cowboys, Indians and horses I would talk her into buying.  Is my age showing?

Back to Kate and her Dino Garden.  We put some pea-sized gravel in the bottom of the pot, added our potting soil and put the succulent in, then let Kate do her thing.

I also purchased a solar light at Dollar Tree--at first it was too tall for the size of the pot and then I thought, "Duh" and just removed the attached spike portion.  Perfect height!

Kate wanted to have the "plant eater" dinos munching on the succulent.  She decided the more carnivorous dinosaurs should be near each other.  Kate was pretty good at naming the dinosaurs; as much as dollar store dinosaurs look like authentic dinosaurs.

However, Kate then decided she wanted a "Dino-Fairy Garden" so out came the Fairy Garden items (resin tree, fairy, mushroom, picket fence).  Here is the finished product:

I didn't tell Kate what the velociraptor might do to the Fairy but I suppose the Fairy has fairy powers so all will be well.  Kate had a lot of fun doing this and, as you can see from her photo, is most proud of her creation.  When we took her home she showed it to her dad and Marissa (dad's girlfriend).

When I saw Kate's Dinosaur
Garden, it reminded me of the Crafty Lumberjack's Dinosaur Terrarium that I featured at Snickerdoodle Create Bake Make Link Party awhile back.  Check out their post (and awesome blog) here.

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day!
