This recipe has been a favorite of our family's since the 90's (1990's that is). My sons were pretty young when I started making this at Christmas time and my girls weren't even born yet. I know there are many delicious versions of this recipe out there but here is ours.
CHRISTMAS CRACKER CANDY RECIPE
Saltine crackers, about 35
One 11 oz. package of semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
1 cup or 2 sticks butter
1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
Holiday sprinkles, M and Ms, or various other add-ons
Line a cookie sheet (one that has a lip on the sides) with foil. Place rows of the saltines to cover the majority of the pan/foil. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the brown sugar and bring to a hard boil for 2 minutes (I always put the timer on for that). Pour the mixture over the crackers to cover all. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 5 minutes.
Once removed from the oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips over the crackers. Allow to stand or 5 minutes or so and then spread the chips so they evenly cover the crackers. You can then add the sprinkles, M and Ms, chopped walnuts or pecans across the top of the cracker candy.
Place in the refrigerator and allow to harden, probably 1 to 2 hours. You can then remove the candy from the foil and break the candy into pieces. Place in a container and store in fridge. Not sure how long it will store well as we have never had it last long enough lol.
For a bit of a different flavor, you can also use the larger sized Cheeze-it crackers. It does sound different but it is a nice variation on this recipe!
Thanks for stopping by!
