FUNTASTIC FRIDAY LINK PARTY 551 AND PIZZA BREAD RECIPE

Here it is, almost the end of July! I guess time does fly by as you get older (I never thought that as a kid). I have spent quite a bit of time, getting things ready for my husband and I to go on our Alaskan cruise in August! I have never been on a cruise before and so many have told us how much they enjoyed the Alaskan cruises (we knew one couple who would go every two years on an Alaskan cruise.). We are familiar with Alaska, as Staci lived there for several years. I've been making sure we are prepared for out shore excursions (whale watching in Juneau, various tours in Ketchikan and Sitka, and a walking tour in Victoria, B.C. Also, making sure we are fetching for our anniversary (which was in April) dinner and for the Gala dinner. I chose our anniversary for a special dinner but I was torn; do I choose to celebrate my cancer recovery? My husband's retirement? The anniversary won out lol.

I've had some nice tips from other bloggers already but if anyone has any for any of the ship's daily activities, how fancy you went on dinner dress, or if anyone had any seasickness, (we do have scopolamine patches) etc., comment below! We are cruising on the Westerdam thru Holland America.

Since July is almost over, wanted to share our CHRISTMAS IN JULY post. Nothing like getting a head start on December!

Onto this week's party!

  5. Donna and crew! First enjoy your Alaskan Cruise, I can't wait to see the photos! Now on to real business, I would like to suggest that you celebrate "you" everyday! Beating cancer is a biggie and does NOT qualify for a single celebration on a boat. Every day is reason to celebrate, so do it!. I hope you enjoy cruising as much as we did, we are planning our next one, that leaves from Galveston. OH and thanks for the visit and the link-up. Melynda@scratchmadefood!

  6. We did about 5 or 6 cruises on Holland America (Caribbean and Alaska) in the late '90s and early 2000s, and love that cruise line. A little more sedate b/c there's nothing at all for kids to do, so aside from a baby or 2, no kids at all. We did bring formal clothes for a dinner or 2 at night, but things may have changed b/c the suitcase requirements weren't strict when we went (but there are cute long dresses that roll up & don't wrinkle). They did supply parkas for the day in Glacier Bay, but stick a silk long underwear top in your suitcase to wear under your sweater (just in case). We did the helicopter ride onto the glacier and you can get out & walk around. We stayed in the Veranda Suites (top level) which had windows along the whole wall so we never got seasick (it's that closed in, claustrophobic feel of other staterooms that adds to it), but it doesn't get really stormy water b/c you're not far out in the ocean. You'll have a great time!

  8. Oh I hope you have the best time! We've only been on 2 cruises but never to Alaska (though that is one my bucket list of trips!). We found on our last trip in January 2024 that there really was a very wide variety of styles/dressiness on the ship for most nights and events. I tended to be a bit fancy as I never get to wear fancy clothes but my husband mostly wore khakis and polo shirts. We've been really lucky with calm seas both time so no sea sickness tips, sorry. I hope you have calm seas too!
