FUNTASTIC FRIDAY LINK PARTY AND PUMPKIN DINNER

Welcome to another week of Funtastic Friday! I needed to get this post done early as we are heading to the big city of Reno, Nevada tonight--my husband has an early morning procedure and getting up at 3 a.m. to leave for Reno by 4 a.m. is not one of my favorite things to do. It is a little over 2 hours to get to Reno and we need to be there by 6:30--thus, heading in tonight. Sometimes we stay with one of our two sons who live there but I felt better getting a hotel room since we have to be up and going so early.
Probably get some Hobby Lobby and Costco in while we are there.

We did decide to have our Silkie, Susie, cremated as I just wasn't sure what to do. I hate to leave a pet behind if we sell our place, so we get them cremated to go with us (this was our first chicken, tho). However, I don't think that will be feasible in the future as we still have eight more chickens and the cost to do so was $250, without the urn. I was a bit surprised since she is so small and our vet office said that is what they charge across the board. The vet office doesn't do the work, they are just the pick-up site for a pet crematorium in Reno, who comes to town once a week to the vet offices to pick up/return deceased pets. Being an animal lover gets expensive....Well, we will figure it out but hopefully this won't happen again for quite some time. Thank you to all who offered condolences last week 💖

I am sharing an oldie but goodie this week-- DINNER IN A PUMPKIN
I started making this when my older kids were small and it is a favorite still. They all have the recipe and most of them make it every year. I used to make it on Halloween itself but lately I seem to make it on a night other than that--Halloween gets busy and I am old lol. It is quite tasty and nutritious, especially if you scoop up some of the baked pumpkin with the meat mixture. Maybe give it a try!

    1. Hi Amy. Yes, a lot of money but she is out first chicken to die and it was sudden so I was unsure what to do. I guess I will need to make peace with burial for the others as with an urn, it was almost $400. We have had cremated our dogs and cats and will continue to do that but 8 more chickens, probably not. Procedure went well, thanks. Thank you for joining us and commenting each week!

    1. Thanks for joining us, Esme! Procedure went well so that's a relief. Being a nurse, sometimes I think of the "worst" worst case scenario lol. Have a wonderful week!

  8. I hope the procedure goes well. Thanks so much for hosting...and yes, I understand that $250. My daughter had a hamster she adored. He was about 3 when he passed. We used to joke that he was the longest living hamster in captivity. We decided to do the same for her little one (and I mean little!) and it was $250. Must be the standard charge...

    1. Hi Kim. Yes, the vet tech told me the crematorium seems to charge that no matter the size. Just a bit of a shock. Oh, my son had a guinea pig years ago that passed and we got him cremated, too. I think it helps with a broken heart. I know! Guinea Pig (that was his name lol) lived to be 5 and we read that was pretty much max for that species. Have a wonderful week and thanks for joining and commenting!

    1. Hi Laura. Yes, his procedure went well and we appreciate the good wishes. WE went to Costco and to a nursery and got to see our youngest son and have lunch with him, so not a bad day. Have a wonderful week and a great Halloween.
