Happy Saturday and welcome Snickerdoodle Create Bake Make Link Party!
How is your weekend? I have a lot I need to get done--I need to finish writing a paper for my Principles and Practice in Health Education, I need to finish my craft for our upcoming Spring Dollar Store Blog Hop (will be on the blog Monday, 3/12/18!), need to clean, blah blah, blah. What about you? Up to anything fun this weekend?
We had a sad night on Wednesday. Our 20-year-old cockatiel, de Janeiro, passed away. Our son Eric loved and raised cockatiels, parakeets, finches, and love birds when he was in junior high school and high school. de Janeiro was the last remaining bird. He came to have that name as his mate was in our home before him and her name was Rio (what else could we have named him?).
de Janeiro had acted like he didn't fell well the past 3 weeks and I had taken him to the vet once but in our small town there really aren't any avian vets. Medication was prescribed to cover bacterial infections and inflammation. When he still wasn't feeling much better, I called around and found a vet in Reno to take him to and was leaving early Thursday to do this. He passed Wednesday night....our son Eric held him as he died and I know that was hard. I shared a lot of tears all evening and into the early morning. Poor Eric just looked like he was in pain. We did take de Janeiro to a vet on Thursday who was able to tell us he had a tumor in his abdominal cavity and there wasn't anything that we could have done. Birds commonly hide when they don't feel well so that is why we hadn't noticed any behavior change until recently.
We love you, de Janeiro.
