Hi and thanks for joining us this week and every week. If you have had to deal with Hurricane Isaias, I hope all is well with you and yours. It's been a few years (decades) since I have been in a hurricane, but I definitely recall the ones that made landfall in Jacksonville, FL. I was a child and so glad that my parents were prepared--I actually thought using flashlights and candles were great fun. Kids do those things lol.
We had a sad passing at our place just yesterday. Susie, one of our original Silkies, passed away due to an accident. I won't go into details but it was upsetting for the family and I still am a bit in the "what if this?" or "what if that?" stage. Susie was hatched on 4/25/23 and so was just at 3.5 years. I had a Silkie hen as a child in Florida who was named Susie so when I got the 2 girls in 2023, I had to name them Susie and Sally (another hen I had as a child). Susie could be a bit cranky at times but boy, she hatched a few eggs (Silkies are notoriously broody) and she was the best little mom. We just took her 4-month-old "son", Rufus to live out his life on a farm last Friday. So, we went from 4 Silkies to 2 in a matter of 4 days. I love you, Susie, and will see you again 💔💔💔

Sorry to hear about Susie! I definitely think hurricanes and loss of power seemed more fun when I was a kid. We don't get them that often here in CT but I've lived through a few doozies. There was one big hurricane in the 80's where we lost power and possibly even boarded up our windows... I just remember it being really dark inside and a huge oak tree in our across the street neighbors yard fell and made quite the sound.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about Susie. It's amazing how attached you get to the animals in your life. thanks so much for hosting and for the feature for the Thrifted Picnic Basket. It was a great find we will enjoy over and over again. Have a lovely week.

Donna chickens do become our pets in so many ways, so it is not an easy day when something happens. So sorry.
